The Streamlight Protac HL works well in the end, but not without hastle and more money spent in the begininng. I bought this flashlight because I work security detail in an ugly part of my city, and when I need a flashlight, I need it to work consistently every time – because my life could depend on it. For a standard flashlight, that may be too much to ask for, but for a flashlight of this reputation and price, I was expecting much more. I bought the Streamlight Protac HL 2 months ago. It worked for about a month (long enough for the return time to expire), and then the 600 lumen output drastically decreased. I assumed it was exhausted batteries, and so I bought a new package of batteries. The Streamlight did not regain its 600 lumen output. It put out less than 200 lumen, in my estimations. At times the light did not turn on at all when the switch was pressed. I assumed that this was my fault, that maybe I didn’t know how to use the Streamlight’s “ten-tap” technology. After all, I couldn’t find anything on the internet suggesting that anyone had ever had a problem with a Streamlight…

1100 lumens means 1100 lumens. Streamlight delivers once again. I purchased the light for patrol use. Walking up to a car with illegally tinted windows on a traffic stop at midnight is incredibly uneasy. I own the Stinger HP which is quite bright and I love it. That light is mounted in the car and comes every where with me. But I needed a new duty light for my belt and I needed one that would burn through tinted windows like butter. This light rips through windows and blinds anything in its path. I’ll let the picture speak for itself.

ProTac HL3 vs ProTac HL4 I’ve owned the ProTac HL3 for about 8 months now and I love it. It’s small and it has 1100 lumens. The HL3 has a long beam distance the only con is that you cannot use rechargeable batteries and it uses 3 CR 123 batteries and they go by quick. When I heard about the ProTac HL4 and that you’ll be able to use rechargeable batteries I immediately pre ordered the HL4. Now that I’ve received it, I am a little disappointed in the flashlight. Seeing that it was going to have 2200 lumens, twice as much as the HL3. The HL4 is only slightly brighter than the HL3. However the HL4 has a wider area of light as oppose to the HL3. It’s still a great flashlight, especially if you don’t like wasting money on purchasing cr123 batteries. As for its size you can see in the picture that the HL4 is much bigger and harder to fit in most pockets.
