Not a gimmick — these work like advertised! It took just a few minutes to get myself hooked up after charging. I watched videos on my phone and heard the dialogue, background noses and music soundtrack just fine (better than watching television) and could still clearly hear my dogs, the mailman and normal household sounds. Tried them with music also and even stuck them on my husband to see if I could hear what he was listening to — I couldn’t, yet the volume was high enough for listening when I stuck them back over my own head.They also worked with my eyeglasses and I wear thick plastic Ray-Ban frames.
The sound quality on these headphones is excellent! And I really liked that they didn’t cover … The sound quality on these headphones is excellent! And I really liked that they didn’t cover my ears- you can still hear cars/people talking to you but can still hear music- almost like the music is playing in the room. I use pressure-adjusting earplugs when flying, and can’t use earphones with them. But these worked well for that! So I I really, really wanted to love these! But they didn’t stay well on my head. The ‘earpiece’ sits right in front of your ear, and kept sliding around when I would move my head. I was trying to use them for running too, and would slip even worse when I was sweaty. If only they could stay in place better, they would be my perfect headphone. But the fact that they moved around on me made them not work for me at all. Maybe I’ll try a newer version again in the future!
